The world according to Beverlyn Nathan

These few post below, will be a documentation of my whole trip to the Land of the Southern Cross, Australia. It was the 3 weeks of my life that I wouldn’t trade for anything, and it is meant to be shared to all of you. Starting from the time my whole journey started, all the anticipation, joy and strenghts that I had to manage through this wonderful trip. And it turned out to be very good.

The flight to Australia was not so good, I wasn’t able to sleep and it was pretty annoying. We landed at Coolangatta,Gold Coast at about 0715 AUS time….and had a lay-over for about 9 hours before my next flight to Newcastle. Upon reaching Newcastle, we were taken to a campsite where about 1 thousand pilgrims from various parts of the world, occupied. Thank God, the French group..which included me n 2 other Malaysian, had luck on our side by being placed in classrooms with heaters, where as the others had to sleep in the cold..which was about 3 degrees..( oh god, damn cold ok?!?!). We spent 2 enjoyable days there, visiting a park called Blackbutt Reserve…(heheheheh..yes yes..very hillarious name), which had Kangaroos, Emus and Koalas. Damn cun la..I got my picture taken with a Koala called Angel. Then by the 3rd day, we left to Toronto..(its in Australia.obviously..) and I got to meet my host family. She was a nice, dear old lady called Margaret who had a nice house by the beach. Superb-view la k?

During these few days here, my typical day started off by waking up early, going for mass, and social service. This part of the trip was called ‘Days in the Diocese’. It was really cool, as here, I began to make really great friends from America, Columbia and of course France!! I had a whole lot of fun..snapped a whole lotta pictures. Margaret was really nice, as she looked after us with so much love. It was fun staying up late, sipping wine and eating cheese, talking to her about life in general. She took us to a few parts of Toronto, which included a lake..which had the most spectacular view…*sigh*…..and obviously the beach….and showed us off to all her neighbours..lol.

I also met this really cool dude, called Tyler from America who is in the seminary back in the US. He is only 19 yrs..but the burning desire he had for the faith was just incredible. And then there were other new friends that made all these moments wonderful. The day that we left to Sydney, Margaret, my host family, was really sad to see us go, she invited us to came back…and yes, definitely I will. At night, we had a bus ride to Sydney….and OMG!!! I have to tell u guys this….the Sydney highway is ALL tunnels la!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This was like absolute HEAVEN for me k….yes..all of u know that I’m totally obsessed with tunnels….I had the time of my life…superb, I tell u..Tunnels everywhere..wow!! (ok..I’ll stop..lol). My first view of the city, took my breath away la…it was so damn beautiful. I caught a glimpse of the Sydney harbour bridge and the Opera house. Gorgeous, I tell you. But still, tunnels will remain one of the Greatest invention of man!

{July 6, 2008}   Aussie land…

Well, I’ll be leaving to Australia tomorrow on a journey which I know will definitely change and make me a better person. The preaparation to go itself took like forever. With all the winter clothes, gifts, shoes…and most importantly, to be prepared spiritually.

I’m very anxious to leave..for I know that this will be a journey which is very worthwhile. Despite me skipping my semester and all for this sole reason. I know that the World Youth Day experience will be something that I never will forget. So yes..Australia…here I come!!

I will definetely keep u guys updated this 3 weeks…do keep me in your prayers. Muaxx!!! love ya’ll!!
